I could go on for hours about this Ampeg bass stack, but I will keep it simple and say, this is the best sounding, most durable rig I ever owned. The cabs are road ready and they have endured years of loading and unloading; however, they sound as good today as the day I first played them in the early 2000s. It is one of the most powerful head and speaker combinations you will find for bass. In fact, I played smaller venues (500 or less) where the sound tech ran everything but my bass through the sound system, but every time I played, others approached me intrigued by the powerful, yet smooth, clean sound achieved though this stack. A quick internet search will verify similar experiences from bassists all over the world who play distinctive styles of music using different bass guitar brands and models through this same set up.

This is my second SVT–4 PRO head, which was bought in 2017, and I only used it for about a year before the band stopped playing.

Both cabs are from the early 2000s, so they have road wear, which does not affect the sound in the least. Both cabs need new casters (wheels), which were made to be removable. They all still work fine to roll the cabs around a room, but once picked up to load or stack, a few of them just fall out because the connectors are no longer tight. Also, the cabs use auto lightbulbs as powerful fuses to protect the speakers. If you are overpowering the cabs, light beams from the cab ports.

The rack is also from the early 2000s and it has a built–in, retractable handle and wheels like a suitcase for easy transportation.

The tuner is the only component I did not buy new. It was used when I got it around 2007/2008, but it has worked fine for me from day one and it is a classic early 90s model!

The Ampeg SVT–4 PRO, infamously known as the industry work horse, is the amp that defined bass sound. It is a pro touring amp that gives lots of tonal control and power. It is a true hybrid featuring a 3–tube preamp and a Mos–Fet power–amp that delivers 1,600W into four ohms. This head is designed for players that want the familiar power and tone of an SVT but need the tone–shaping capabilities afforded by modern bass amp designs. It offers an expansive palette of tonal options. The frequency control allows you to select the center frequency for the midrange control, giving you five distinct voicing options for the midrange. And if that is not enough, you can use the 9–band graphic EQ to fine–tune your sound or use it to set up a footswitch–able second channel with a volume boost for your bass solo.
