This posting is for a pair of rare B&W DM-2 transmission line monitor speakers.
Consecutive Serial numbers.
B&W designed these speakers for critical studio monitor use, but with the goal of providing extended monitor quality bass. While the tweeter and super-tweeter are similar to those used in popular Spendor and Rogers speakers of the time, the woofer is far more powerful and rugged - able to take more amplifier power and play louder.
These heavy and very well built speakers use a tapered transmission-line construction that serves three very important functions.
1). Provides extended base below the roll-off point of the woofer. Unlike a ported enclosure that plays a single frequency (like blowing air over an open bottle), a properly designed transmission-line magnifies all frequencies below the roll-off of the woofer (down to the design point of the line).
2). The extra internal bracing of the transmission-line minimizes the "box sound".
3). The transmission-line minimizes internal standing waves in side the enclosure.
All drivers function perfectly and the speakers sound great.
The internal crossover is original and uses ONLY poly/film capacitors - there are ZERO electrolytic capacitors in this design.
Cabinets have seen better days. These speakers are very heavy for their size (about 60LBS each) and require very careful shipping and handling. I purchased these years ago from a fellow who lived in the mid-west and he promised me he knew how to ship these speakers safely. Unfortunately, he did not, and some rear corners got dinged. No parts of these speakers are structurally compromised, but they do have dinged corners - seems to be common for this model due to being heavy. So, they are not cosmetically perfect (see pictures and know that they have some dinged/crushed corners that do not compromise performance - I never had a problem with their looks), but they are sonically outstanding.
Functionally perfect with no voice coil rubbing, and no damage to any woofer or tweeter cone, spider or surround.
High frequency adjustment for each speaker is located on the back next to the connecting binding posts. This adjustment has five settings: -2dB, - 1dB, Flat, +1dB, +2dB
Will include the stands that are pictured with the speakers.
Cash only. Local exchange - positively, no shipping.
