On Saturday May 30th, 1970, the largest crowd of the major league season to that point watched 23-year-old Nolan Ryan and Cleon Jones star as the New York Mets came from behind with 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Houston Astros 4-3 in front of 54,424 fans on batting helmet day.
At the time the game was the Major League game of the week and it did not disappoint.
Nolan Ryan had 11 strikeouts and struck out the side twice to improve his record to 4-3, while Cleon Jones drove in 2 runs including a triple in the eighth inning.
