About Candlewood Lake Ohio!
Candlewood is a private, serene 1,500 acre vacation style community located in rural Morrow County, just North of Mt. Gilead, Ohio. Within a short drive from both Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, Candlewood Lake offers both vacation and full-time real estate in a secure, gated recreational community.
Candlewood is owned and operated by our homeowner’s association comprised of Candlewood Lake members. The association has overseen the continual progress of our community from its humble beginnings with one home in 1973 to its current position as the second largest and highest valued municipality in Morrow County.
Wooded lots surround a 250-acre stream fed lake which is the heart of our community. The lake is just the right size for boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming or just taking a leisurely pontoon ride along our six miles of scenic shoreline.
140 acres throughout the community are currently dedicated to parks, green space and amenities. Candlewood includes residential, mobile home, and RV camping units. Opportunities for recreation abound and include anything from strolling along the beautiful tree lined streets, to biking, swimming, boating, fishing and tennis to name a few.
Candlewood Lake Association Vision Statement: To enhance our quality of life, we will work together as members of our private-lake community to deliver responsible governance with an emphasis on outdoor recreation within a secluded, natural, peaceful and fun environment.

The lake is restocked annually and includes:

* Bluegill
* Catfish
* Crappie (Black and White)
* Hybrid Striped Bass
* Walleye
* Yellow Perch
From springtime through fall, fishing tournaments are held for both adults and children:

* Carp
* Just Kids
* Spring Bass Tournaments
* Fall Bass Tournaments
Boating & More
Candlewood Lake is known for having one of the lower boat densities per acre among private lake communities in Ohio.
This means fewer boats on the lake compared to many other Ohio lakes. It’s not uncommon to have the entire 250 acre lake to yourself on weekdays throughout the summer. The lake, surrounded by wooded lots, is easily accessible using one of two boat launch ramps. Two rental dock areas are also available for those who don’t own lakefront property. There is even a security boat on the water most days to help ensure your boating experience is safe and fun. Whether you live here full time or utilize the lake for a weekend getaway, we know you will enjoy what we have to offer.
Boats normally seen on the lake include:
* Ski boats
* Pleasure boats
* Pontoon boats
* Fishing boats
* Paddle boats
* Kayaks
* Canoes and row boats
In the past, when someone talked about lake fun, skiing or swimming were the first things to come to mind. But now, for those who prefer a low-key approach to a day on the lake, there are more relaxing options to consider such as various floats, recliners, and water lounges. Lazing about has evolved into a lake activity that doesn’t even require you to go back to the shore to retrieve refreshments-simply reach over to your floating cooler for another beverage-and wonder how the other half lives.
Candlewood Lake is perfect for many water sports. To name a few:
* Water skiing
* Tubing
* Knee Boarding
* Kayaking
* Canoeing
* Water Bicycling

Hiking at Mt. Tabor Trail
Enjoy the splendor of nature on two serene trails winding through 100 acres of our conserved green spaces.
Walk our two conservation trails and witness nature’s beauty. The trails and their natural habitats are stunning in all seasons, and the opportunities to connect with nature are boundless. While walking on our trails, you may see deer, rabbits, a mink, or resident and migratory birds. The two trails offer a diversity of habitat types. The South Trail is an easy one-mile closed loop trail within an old-growth maple-beech forest. In the spring, witness the loveliness of spring ephemerals on the forest floor, awakening from their winter slumber. In the fall, bring the family for a leaf walk.
Located on the north side of Candlewood Lake, the Mt. Tabor Trail has over two miles of trail winding through early-successional forest and meadow. Its habitats boast a variety of grasses, shrubs, and wildflowers. Multiple wetland systems surround the upland habitat, making it a prime area for wildlife. Canopy gaps and soft edge transitions between the forest and trail provide abundant bird fruit resources.
This area is also particularly favored by pollinating insects as we have created patches of pollinator-friendly habitat along the trail edges and installed several native prairie plots and a pollinator garden. You will find osprey, bluebird, kestrel, owl, and bat nest boxes along the trail. In the winter, observe the frosty landscapes while cross-country skiing on the broad, level trail. In the summer, experience native flowers in full bloom, watching Monarch butterflies floating gracefully through the air.
