Business Support Services (BSS), a Key Business Unit within the City of Charlotte, is currently seeking a candidate to provide assistance to the Communications and Marketing Officer with the development, implementation and coordination of internal and external communication activities to support the KBU’s business goals and objectives. Assists with drafting, editing and distributing documents, reports, publications, surveys and other marketing materials as well as coordinate the weekly review and submission process for departmental Council Agenda items. Serves as backup for routine communication requests and/or questions from customers; maintains and updates content of the department’s Intranet; serves as Special Events Coordinator to support City and/or department specific events; assists the Office of Resource Management with a variety of administrative tasks as needed. Candidate must demonstrate proven ability to work as part of a creative team. Must be able to formulate ideas and communicate them clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing to various levels of management and customers. Knowledge of public relations techniques and methods as well as principles of business writing is strongly desired. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a diverse environment and work with minimal supervision are essential. Requires proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, In Design, Illustrator and Photoshop are highly desirable. Graduation from high school or GED is required. Prefer at least one to three years of progressive experience related to the responsibilities listed above. Strongly prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in communications, journalism, and public relations.
