I was listening to the radio one day (NPR) and there was a guy who was writing a book. He invited people to email to him their secrets, anonymously of course. I am so close to hopping on a plane tomorrow and never coming back. I was thinking about moving to Chile. For sure no one's going to find me there. I'm actually Central European and Native American. My great grandparents migrated here from Germany in the late 1800's in hope of finding a new and better life for them and their children, this side of my family didn't own slaves, in fact they were trying to escape the feudalist society that enslaved them in Germany.

As for the other side of my family.. Where would you like to begin? I would say being enslaved by white people would have been far better than the way that the Native Americans were treated, wouldn't you? Their country and land was taken from them by force. Biological warfare was used on them, they were slaughtered en masse, they were oppressed, they were befriended then betrayed when they wouldn't fully cooperate, and yet they still helped the American settlers in their fight against the British.. Can you say character?

After all of that what did the get out of it? "Reservations", tracts of land the government set aside for them to have that are full of poverty and drug abuse, just so the government can say the did "something" for them... The best part? You don't hear any of them bitching one bit about any of it! Not a peep!

In fact, even recently the Native Americans helped our government in a war, when they were recruited to create an unbreakable code for use during WW2. Their contribution is considered by most historians to be the reason we were able to be so successful in our advancements on Japan and it took the government 40 YEARS to recognize them for it...

Racism? Nah, it's something made up by people looking to get something for nothing.. The next time someone wants to bring up racism, think of the Native Americans.. In all honesty, I’m sick and tired of the “blame game” as well as the attempt to foist quilt on all Caucasians. Here is the "inconvenient truth";

1) My ancestors immigrated to the United States after the civil war. All of my ancestors came from countries that had absolutely nothing to do with the slave trade (they came from Eastern Europe). More than 90% of the people in the United States have ancestors who came to this country after the civil war. So no, I don't feel guilty about what my ancestors did to Negroes, because they did absolutely nothing to them.

2) No Negroes were ever stolen from their native country. Virtually all of the slaves that were brought to the United States were already slaves in their native countries. They were sold by their black owners in Africa to slave traders who brought them to America.

3) Slavery wasn't abolished in some countries in Africa until the 1980's. In fact, many people are still slaves in Africa today.

4) The human condition and standard of living in the Americas is and was far better than in Africa. It could be argued that Negroes benefited tremendously by coming to the New World. “In an 1856 letter to his wife Mary Custis Lee, Robert E. Lee called slavery "a moral and political evil." Yet he concluded that black slaves were immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially and physically.”

5) Even prior to the civil war there were many “free blacks” in the United States. In 1810, 75% of all blacks in Delaware were “free blacks”.

6) Prior to the civil war, less than 5% of white people in the United States owned slaves.

7) In the year 1860 in the city of Charleston, 125 “free blacks” owned slaves.

8) A disproportionate number of "free blacks" owned slaves in America. Some estimates are as high as 25%, particularly in southern states.
