Im a 21 year old Drummer, Guitar and Bass player that is looking to start a band. I love music and sounds anywhere from the ska beachy feel like sublime and ill scarlet to alternative and rock like Creed/ Alter Bridge. I am a Christian, and as of now a Drummer in a Christian band. But we only play in church and i would like to take other types of music written or covered and play them for show. I have been in other bands and i have been on tour as far as New Orleans. I have been playing Drums for 8 years and guitar for about 10 and just recently picked up Bass. Drums are my priority or what i am best at but still can play good rythm and or electric. I have all pro equipment and would like to have other musicians with great playing ability and good equipment, i also would like a good attitude and for you willing to learn and to not get so upset about being corrected or given other ideas. We've recently formed a band, and have hand-picked our members. We expect to be gigging in 4-6 months. Currently we have: Lead Guitar1, Bass, Drummer, and a Singer/Guitar2. Our singer is capable of playing both lead or rhythm, but we want him to focus more on singing and working the crowd. Additionally, we have no backing vocalist. Therefore we are seeking to fill out our line-up by adding another member. We are considering several approaches:

1) A veteran Rhythm Guitarist who has backing vocal ability. If you can sing lead, then we're okay with you singing a coupla'few songs (in fact, we'd like it!), but we DO currently have a lead vocalist and we DO currently have a lead guitarist.

2) A Keys player who can (hopefully) sing backing vocals.

3) A semi-green rhythm guitarist or Keys-player who's looking for an opportunity to play in a band, or your first band. Must be able to keep up, work and play well with others, and follow directions.

We have a professional P.A.; a competent soundman; and a secure practice space (located north of Chester, SC, so you're gonna' need a car!). We are between the ages of 30-47, and are open-minded about most any musician.....but understand that "image" is something all bands must project. Your ability to get along with others is as important as your playing ability. Your gear matters too. Hopefully you play through tubes. If you need a mic, a line-out, or the mix fed back to you (keys), then no problem!

We're playing crowd-friendly favorites that include some rockin' 80's, a few 90's, with an ear towards dance music (when the ladies dance, the guys spend money and the owner is happy), but we're trying to avoid the "dance band" label. Your input on material will be directly proportional to what you bring to the table, but we are NOT looking to change our identity.

Here's the deal. I am 20 years old, I have started a band on my own called Moments Like Movie Scenes (myspace.com/momentslikemoviescenes). It is just me right now, and I have written and recorded music on my own. But it is NOT a solo project, at least I don't intend for it to be. What i will say . I dont blame a bar owner/manager for being creative and trying something
new to get the crowd and bands in the door. But asking musicians to play for FREE???
Thats BS. If they would provide the PA and maybe some free drinks or something
then thats another thing. I was there a few weeks back and watched "SuperGlide".
They did a great job and sounded great. However there was NO crowd. The worst thing about that night was
the staff and manager. Nobody was at the bar but yet it took 20 minutes to get a FUCKIN beer because
the bartenders were too busy talking with the locals.
FUCK YOU RUDDER....will never come back.

I have worked with these people by phone and by email. Both times they were rude.

My band is booked solid every weekend for the next 3 months for $800- $1200 a night, with contracts. So I guess we don't suck enough to play "The Rudder".

Yeah, they sent us the same email they sent everyone on myspace and we kindly told them to F off!
What they have done is really lower their standards... I can't wait to see what loser band shows up on a Thur night to play for free.

We seriously just need to start calling out the bands that play there.

We are an established cover band in the Charlotte area looking for a drummer. We play all types of venues and events, and have been together for 4+ years. The ideal individual will play a variety of styles, have his own gear, transportation, dynamics, and be a team player. Backup vocals a huge plus.

Music styles include mostly Rock, Classic Rock, with a little Southern Rock and Country as well as other varieties. We have 150+ tunes in our repertoire, so we definitely need a drummer who is established in terms of being familiar with the genre's mentioned above and can learn quickly. We generally play songs as recorded, but add our own twist where needed.

We all have day jobs and families, so this is not for the money. We all do this for fun - and we happen to get paid for a hobby we all love to do. The band typically practices once a week, and our goal is to gig out at least twice a month. We have our own P.A and rehearsal space. All players have top notch gear and an easy going attitude.

30 mins to an hour Travel to gig
1 1/2 hour to set up equipment
4 hours of entertainment
1 1/2 hours to take down equipment
30 minutes to an hour travel and transport = 8 hours of work for 1 gig.
You probably spend more on advertising, Oh yeah, you don't spend money on advertising, the band is suppose to bring the people.
I'm sure you don't work half that hard for that amount of money.

A lot of managers in this city are great and treat their entertainment accordingly. These are the very same places that get inundated with press kits etc. and have their pick of the best groups. I'd venture a guess that at any given live performance by any band that 50% of the audience is musicians. If you treat the musicians like garbage word gets around very quickly especially with the established acts. Yes there are acts that misrepresent themselves however if you actually took the time to look into it you would be able to tell who they are quite easily. I can go to any bands website and tell pretty quickly how legit they are. Video never lies. It's a true indication of a band no matter how bad the sound quality ( which is expected coming from a camera ). Number of friends on myspace doesn't translate to number of people showing up etc. etc. etc.
