Good morning,

I am a volunteer for an art auction called �Art with Heart� (AWH, http://www.artwithheartauction.com/) and would like to tell you about our Emerging Artist competition that is taking place in Charlotte, NC this winter.

An �emerging artist� is an individual who is not currently represented on a permanent basis by a gallery. Interested and eligible participants must complete an application and submitted pieces are reviewed by an AWH panel. Selected work will be juried by an AWH panel and sold. The winner of the EA competition will be featured during the live auction. Emerging artists receive a tremendous amount of free exposure while contributing to a great cause - all proceeds will benefit United Family Services� domestic violence program (http://www.unitedfamilyservices.com). Note that artists do NOT need to be local/Charlotte residents to apply.

If you are interested, please take time to note these deadlines and requirements:

We are putting together a European arts and culture adventure scheduled for mid-April 2010 and looking for people who want to go along.
THIS IS NOT A FREE TRIP TO EUROPE!!
Anyone going will have to pay their own way, but splitting the costs of hotels, transportation, etc... cal help us all save a lot.
The trip will be about 14-16 long and cover Paris, France; Western and northern Germany; Amsterdam; Denmark and Sweden..... 2-3 days in each place.
We have been researching airfare, railpasses, hotels and hostels, food... pretty much everything.
This is not a party trip, but it is open to whatever. We don't have to stick together if you prefer to lone-wolf it.

Call for Artists - Valentine Show

Maddi�s Gallery was recently awarded Niche Magazine�s �Top Retailer� award for craft galleries in the US. As a response, we initiated a �Year of Celebration� to include special exhibits and collaborations throughout the coming year.

This February, we would like to showcase the talents of Charlotte area artists in the
First Annual Charlotte Valentine Show.
This show is a juried exhibition and sale. There is no jury fee.
All artists living within a 150 mile radius of Charlotte are eligible.
Artwork must be original and all media can be submitted.
Each piece must make a suitable �Valentine� gift.
The artist should set the retail price of each piece. We encourage prices under $200.
Artwork will be displayed and sold with a 50% artist commission.
The artist is to pick up any unsold work.
Artwork should be no larger than 24� in any dimension.
Each artist may submit up to three entries.

Entries should include: a CD with images and info including:
Title of each piece, Dimensions, Media and Price
Artist�s name, address, phone, and e-mail
Return SASE

A Dream That Will Be Carried Out on a Fully Loaded Touring Bicycle (Charlotte, North Carolina)

On March 24th, 2010, I will be embarking on a solo bicycle tour of the United States and Canada, originating here in Charlotte, North Carolina. How long will I be gone? I honesty have no idea. Where will I be going? Wherever the wind and my heart takes me. To forecast times and locations is impossible enough without being classified as utter foolishness on my part. I know where I would love to go, but Spirit will guide me in the right direction. This is something I have dreamed of doing ever since I was a little dude. The first time I saw a loaded Schwinn navigating a highway in Kentucky back in the 1970's, my eyes bugged out and my heart raced. I was born and raised in a nomadic family with gypsy genes and a love for new adventures, and I have always had a passion for bicycles. As a prerequisite, I have traversed several thousand miles hitchhiking in the Lower 48 since 1984. At the still young and extremely youthful age of 44 years, I know deep in my heart that I have got to do this. I will be creating, exhibiting, and selling my art. I will be having conversations with thousands of people. Mostly, I will be listening. I will lend a hand as necessary. I will engage in Direct Action of the purest, most non-violent kind. I will be documenting everything here on this blog. Words, art, photos. Natch.

For the sake of safety, my good health, and optimal mobility I wish to outfit myself with the best equipment, whether it is new or used. I will accept donations of whatever is necessary to fulfill this dream and obligation to myself that I wish to share with others along the way. For all of you who contribute towards this project in any fashion, and think this is a truly awesome idea, you will not only be thanked profusely but you will be listed here (@ Wordpress) (if you so desire). I'm not just aiming to write a book, I am aiming to write many books.

Look, a lot of you have very good work and whoring yourself on craigslist is not helping anyone.
People come to you for a custom portrait,tattoo,painting,etc because they want to spend some money and get something nice.

Cheap people who look for bargain artwork are notorious for either not paying you or wanting it for practically nothing.
They don't respect you or your craft and in my opinion would be better off going to wal-mart portrait studio.

Charge for your time and respect your art and you will gain respect and earn a living doing so.
It just takes a little time and patience.
